Peregrin of the sea, if you look far from the waves, see the fire of Etna shine all the limbs, open to the wind and run! There is eternal rice: it comes to these beaches, this is Paradise!

Crystal Clear Water Beaches Syracuse

Beach of Avola

best beaches in sicily price

You will certainly have heard of its wines, but try to spend a weekend in its beaches and you will certainly not be left with a bad taste in your mouth. The beach of Gallina is perhaps the best known, thanks to the beautiful natural scenery in which it is located: inside the Cassibile River Reserve, opens this wonderful sandy coast, ideal for children to play in peace, thanks to the seabed that slowly descend from shore to front. At Marina di Avola there is a long sandy strip that alternates stretches of free beach. It is a place chosen by locals but who for some time has been attracting the interest of the young, thanks to the animated evenings during the summer.

Brucoli Beach

Brucoli

Set within a natural recess that protects it from winds and currents, Brucoli is the first resort of seaside interest for those coming from the northern side. The coast is purely rocky, pushing itself to the sea in a sharp way, with high cliffs even tens of meters plunging into a beautiful blue found, giving life to small caves and inlets for fish and crustaceans, easily visible for those who wear a mask and snorkel .It is a place that has always had a certain charm, from which it will be possible to see the white smoke plumes of Etna. Because of its proximity to Catania, in fact, the town is chosen above all by a young tourism, attracted by the night diversions that the city of Etna can offer.

Carratois Beach and Punta di Rio

wonderful view

Tropical names but Sicilian beauties for ten kilometers of sandy coastline and fresh and transparent water with Isola delle Correnti clearly visible in the background, an ideal environment for those seeking relaxation and fun, together with the sun and the unmistakable sea of Sicily. Eloro beach

beach eloro lido of noto

Eloro beach is located near the ancient center of Helorus. Despite being near Lido di Noto, due to the difficulty of access all the surrounding environment has been maintained a particularly reserved place, with the long stretch of sand surmounted by rocky ridges. The water is crystal clear and the backdrop takes on green colors. Being located within the territory destined to the Vendicari Nature Reserve, it lacks any form of service, guaranteeing the total naturalness of this wonderful beach. The beach is quite secluded and narrow, composed of fine sand that slowly degrades into the sea, with several shoals that allow you to walk several meters into the water.

Fontane Bianche Beach

fontane bianche

Fontane Bianche Beach is one of the most beautiful of the entire eastern coast of Sicily, thanks to its fine white sand and the transparency of its waters, undoubtedly among the clearest of the whole coast of Syracuse.Getting to the Fontane Bianche beach is very simple: from the Catania-Siracusa highway, take the exit for Cassibile, and keep left at the junction. Continue for about 5 kilometers and you will find the indication for Fontane Bianche (turn left): a narrow road with white stone walls will lead you to this little natural paradise. We advise you to leave your car at the large parking lot that you will find on your right as soon as you arrive, shaded by tall acacia trees (the cost should be 3 € for the whole day). From here, access to the beach is really just steps away.

The Marzamemi Beach

marzamemi beach

Marzamemi is a small seaside resort much appreciated for its beaches and for the ancient charm that has managed to maintain over time. Even Marzamemi, like all the south-eastern coast, has developed a certain tourist vocation, allowing visitors evening and night time leisures. The beach of the country par excellence is the large beach, along a shoreline of light sand bathed by a sea that takes on colors ranging from blue to turquoise green. Here there are several beaches but large areas have been kept free. The sea degrades slowly, allowing the possibility of carefree even for parents with small children. Closer to the center of the country, another strip of coast is dedicated to those who prefer a rocky bottom: you can easily go down from wide stairs and you can do some snorkeling right near the historic village of Marzamemi.

Calamosche Beach

Syracuse beach of calamosche

Cala Mosche beach is an enchanted place to visit during your summer tour. It is located in a fairly hidden part of the coast, reachable through a rough road that can be traveled by car but not in its entirety. You will then have to continue on foot the last stretch. You can leave your car in a parking lot next to a Farm for € 3 for the whole day.You then continue on foot for a practicable stretch in no less than 20 minutes: the dry vegetation that surrounds the white road, typical of the Syracuse area, will make you understand that the journey will not be too comfortable. Matches with hats on their heads and agile and comfortable clothing, especially if you plan to go during the summer: do not be too surprised if you reach 40 degrees.

The beach of Vendicari

Vendicari in siracusa

Vendicari beach is located in the center of the Vendicari Nature Reserve, surrounded by rich vegetation that attracts large birds especially during the period of emigration, such as flamingos. The water is sparkling and limpid, ideal for those who love to perform some inspection of the seabed with mask and fins. The beach is made up of small golden grains and thanks to its extension it will not be difficult to find a place for a day in total relaxation in contact with nature. For those looking for a more isolated place, nearby you can have all the quiet you want at the beach of Marianelli, which is reached after walking across the river Tellaro.

Porto Palo of Capo Passero

portopalo in siracusa

The coast of Portopalo di Capo Passero covers the entire southern end of Sicily, below the Paaellelo of Tunis, so as to have several naturalistic aspects that recall the coasts of North Africa. The beauty of this beach along with the variety of coast present will certainly not disappoint: long coasts interrupted by large rocky ridges that give life to caves and beaches is the reason that is repeated along this side. The main beach of Portopalo di Capo Passero is the Scalo Mandrie, with the remains of the old tuna fishery and the Island of Capo Passero that characterize the beautiful surrounding natural scenery. The whole area has become in recent years a destination appreciated by Italian and foreign tourists. For fish lovers, it should be remembered that Porto Palo boasts one of the most active fishing fleets in all of Sicily, supplying fresh fish to most of the eastern coast of Sicily.

Places to see at least once in life

Island of Ortigia

ortigia

The oldest part of Syracuse, the most “historic” historical center of the city, is actually … an island! Ortigia is connected to the mainland by two bridges, the Umbertino Bridge and the Santa Lucia Bridge. Here, in a maze of narrow streets, there are many monuments and major museums, as well as many restaurants and clubs. The neighborhood from where to discover the city, and where to return at the end of the day.

Fonte Aretusa

Fonte Aretusabest beaches in sicily

Arethusa was a nymph (obviously) beautiful. She fell in love – seeing her naked while bathing – the god Alpheus, son of Oceano. Aretusa should not have been particularly enthusiastic about the advances of the god: escaped on the island of Ortigia, in Syracuse, it was transformed by Artemis into a fountain. The “official” (but less fascinating) explanation of why there may be a source of fresh water just a few meters from the sea concerns the peculiarity of the local water table … but it does not matter. The circular fountain is one of the symbols of Syracuse, and green papyrus plants grow there. (To Alfeo it did not go so badly: turned into a river in Greece, it runs through the Ionian Sea to rejoin every day the beloved nymph-source).

Latomia of Paradise and Ear of Dionysus

latomia paradiso

The latomie were stone quarries used in ancient times as prisons: they are many in Syracuse and surroundings, but the most famous is certainly the one called “Paradiso”, which houses the famous Ear of Dionysius, right under the Greek Theater . According to legend, it was dug by Dionysius of Syracuse: thanks to the particular shape of the cave, the cruel tyrant was able to listen in secret to the speeches of his imprisoned enemies … nothing but bugs and microphones! In fact, the cave boasts exceptional acoustics, and each sound is amplified up to 16 times. So, watch what you say!

Greek theatre

Greek theater of Syracuse

Where to see a classic tragedy in an ancient theater? But at the Greek Theater of Syracuse, of course. Built in the fifth century BC, passed through many renovations in the following centuries, the theater is now the center of the Archaeological Park of the Neapolis of Syracuse, and one of the most visited attractions in Sicily. Long abandoned in the past, during the nineteenth century it fascinated the first British travelers who had landed in Italy for their “Grand Tour”, and still their grandchildren are still amazed.

Syracuse Cathedral

siracusa duomo

The Greek history of Syracuse is always afloat: thus, even the most important religious architecture of the city, the Duomo, was in the past a Greek temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Located in the highest part of the island of Ortigia, the Cathedral of the Nativity of Mary Most Holy of Syracuse boasts one of the most beautiful facades of Sicily, designed and completed in the first half of the eighteenth century in a mixture of baroque and rococo elements. The interior, more ancient, also houses a beautiful crucifix of the Byzantine era and a rich treasure.
